There’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok — the list goes on and on. While it’s pretty awesome that there are so many options for social media these days, sometimes it’s hard to know which social media platform to choose in order to promote your business. But, you know what - that’s why the friendly folks at Greyphin are here to help!
Of course, you really can use any and all social media platforms for your business; there really isn’t anything wrong with that. But it may behoove you to have a presence on one or two rather than all of them to reach your desired audience. For example, if you’re selling a product that’s geared towards the youth, then LinkedIn may not be the best place to spend most of your social media efforts - though it could be useful for networking with other industry professionals.
Once you’ve narrowed down your goals, brand identity, and target audience, then you can really start digging into the specifics that each social media platform has to offer. Luckily for you, we took it upon ourselves to break things down for you.
Facebook: Okay; so let’s start with Facebook. Perhaps the king of all social media platforms, Facebook is pretty much the go-to. This platform has over 2 billion active users per month and is considered the largest social media network. This is a great choice for those who like to interact with their followers, as well as post lots of visuals, ads, live videos, videos, and more. You can also promote events, run polls, create group forums, and more. Basically, we always recommend a Facebook page for businesses. It’s one of the first platforms people will search for you!
Instagram: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - or whatever that saying is. Instagram is the perfect platform for those who have a product or service that relies heavily on visuals. With over 1 billion users, Instagram is a great platform for businesses that have high-quality photos and videos of their services. Of course, Instagram is more than just photos - you can also post video and photo stories, live videos, polls, and link to products. The majority of users are a younger crowd (between 18 and 30 years old), but don’t let that stop you from testing out the waters to try to gain even more of an audience.
Twitter: Twitter is another popular social network that is used to present short snippets of information to followers. This is typically a go-to source for news as well as updates on events happening around the world. Coming in at over 330 million monthly users, Twitter isn’t as popular as Facebook or Instagram, but it's still a useful tool. This is a great place to share news about new products, updates about your business or organization, and is also an easy way to communicate with followers through replies and direct messages.
LinkedIn: If you offer a service to professionals, then LinkedIn is a social media platform you’ll want to use. This professional networking website is a great place to share useful resources, such as blog articles from your website, informational videos, job opportunities, and more.
YouTube: If people want to find out information about something, they usually go to one of two places: a search engine such as Google or YouTube. YouTube has over 2 billion active users searching for videos of all kinds. This is a great social media platform for you to post videos about your business, commercials, instructional videos, or even just videos purely meant for entertainment. The best part about YouTube is that you can share your YouTube videos on other social media platforms and even embed them on your website.
TikTok: These days, if you want to reach a younger, “hip” crowd (we sound a little old, don’t we?), then you’re going to want to make a TikTok account. TikTok is a social platform that is meant for videos that are 60 seconds or less. This platform is great for more relaxed, fun content that engages viewers. You can also do live videos and ads on TikTok as well.
While there are several other social media platforms on the internet, the aforementioned seem to be the current key players in 2020. As always, if you need help with social media management, or any other digital marketing services, be sure to give Greyphin a call!
