Let’s face it - keeping your information safe on the internet should be a high priority, especially when you have tons of logins for websites and softwares you use for your day-to-day business as well as for personal use. As technology improves, so does the risk of getting your information stolen online, which is why password management software is highly recommended to keep your information stored in a safe space. At Greyphin, our team uses LastPass, so we decided to write this LastPass review to spread the world about this tool that we’ve grown to love.
What is LastPass?
Simply put, LastPass is an online password manager tool that allows users to safely store their passwords with encryption. The best part? It’s a simple browser extension that requires little to no effort to install to your browser of choice. Currently, LastPass is available for Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, and Internet Explorer.
Pros of Using LastPass
There are several pros that come along with using this browser extension. These include the following:
Keep Your Account Information Safe
After adding this extension to a browser, users are given instructions on how to create one long master password to access LastPass. This password must be one that is safe and hard for hackers to figure out. The software also has strong encryption algorithms designed with your security in mind. It also requires multi factor authentication for yet another added layer of safety.
The security dashboard feature also allows users to view accounts to see if their passwords are considered strong enough, which accounts have repeated passwords, and view alerts in case any accounts have been compromised by data breaches.
Find All Login Info in One Place
The best part about using this tool, other than safety of course, is the fact that you don’t have to keep all of your login information in a spreadsheet anymore. Once users set up LastPass, they’re given the option to add however many username and password combinations as they’d like. This will make your productivity increase since you won’t have to go back and forth between documents trying to find the right password for whatever online account you’re trying to access. Instead, when you visit a website you need to login into, LastPass will do the work for you - giving you the option to click a button and have your information autofill.
Create Safe Passwords
In addition to the password manager and password vault, this software also provides the option to create complex, random passwords with the password generator tool. So, instead of worrying about whether or not your password is considered strong enough, just try out the password generator and start off with a password you know you can trust.
Dark Web Monitoring
Another cool safety feature from this browser extension is the dark web monitoring feature. Turn on monitoring for specific email addresses and you’ll get an alert if any of the listed email addresses is detected on the dark web. If a user does receive an alert, LastPass gives them the option to change their password for further protection.
Cons of LastPass
As we always say in our review blogs, everything that has pros always has at least one or two cons with it. Some downsides of this tool include:
Plans and Pricing
While there is a free version of LastPass that includes unlimited passwords, access on one device, and more, the Premium version includes more features that are desirable. With so many tools you have to use for work, it’s understandable if you don’t want to pay for yet another piece of software. However, at $3 per month for the Premium version, the extra features aren’t too pricey. There’s even a Families version for a whopping $4 per month that’s worth looking into as well.

Learning Curve
Don’t worry - learning this isn’t too difficult, but for some there may be a little bit of a learning curve to get used to this tool. However, LastPass did take it upon themselves to include a resources section on their website in order to help you learn and make the most out of their software.
